A car carrier has been abandoned off the Philippines after it caught fire.

The GMA website cited Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson Captain Armand Balilo as saying the ship in question is K Line's 6,400-ceu Diamond Highway (built 2004).

It was off Recto Bank in the West Philippine Sea at the time, he said on Monday.

The vessel was en route from Singapore to Batangas.

All 25 crew were rescued by a passing bulker heading to Thailand.

A PCG vessel is carrying out firefighting operations.

The last AIS update showed the carrier off Singapore on 13 June.

K Line has been contacted for further information.
