The wreck of the tragic Costa Concordia cruiseship began its last voyage on Thursday in Italy.

Four tugs were moving the hulk of the Costa Cruises vessel at a glacial pace in the port of Genoa.

Italian media said the journey began to the sound of sirens as all traffic was stopped.

The ship is travelling less than two miles to the Molo Guardiano Wharf for final dismantling.

Costa Concordia is being towed at a speed of one metre per minute in a 10-hour operation.

It arrived in Genoa in July 2014 after a complex salvage.

The capsizing of the vessel off Giglio in 2012 killed 32 people.
