Singapore has said it has received no information on immediate threats to shipping in the Straits of Malacca following a warning from China this week.

Neither has it received any intelligence on imminent attacks to Singapore-flagged vessels, port authority MPA said.

On Wednesday, China's Ministry of Transport (MOT) alerted China-flagged ships transiting or bound for the Malacca Straits to an expected attack.

It raised the security level to its highest mark - three - under China's International Ship Security Regulations (ISSR).

“The Port of Singapore will maintain the current security level 1 as per the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and Singapore’s security agencies will continue to be vigilant,” MPA said.

“Regardless of the security level, all ships transiting the SOMS (Straits of Malacca and Singapore) are advised to be vigilant and implement the relevant security measures as per ISPS ships security plan.”
