Clients of Greece’s Conbulk Shipmanagement have emerged as buyers of a sub-panamax that Borealis Maritime sold earlier last week.

London brokers and owning sources in Greece said the 2,478-teu Strauss (built 2005) is joining the fleet of Piraeus-based Conbulk. The ship is believed to have changed hands for about $8.2m, as TradeWinds reported on 18 July.

Third-party management

Conbulk managing director Dimitris Dalacouras said last year that his company is exclusively in the business of managing ships on behalf of third-party clients.

The addition of the Strauss brings Conbulk's fleet to 11 boxships and one bulk carrier, according to VesselsValue.

Conbulk's last boxship addition was a trio of handymaxes its clients acquired in June last year. Sub-panamaxes are the largest type of containerships Conbulk manages.

The Strauss is the second such ship that Borealis has sold in the last two months. In May, the company sold the 2,490-teu Puccini (built 2003) to Marshal Shipping of Dubai for a reported $7.1m. The ship has been renamed SL Tweety.

Both the Strauss and the Puccini formed part of a portfolio of 18 boxships and bulkers that Borealis acquired enbloc from Commerzbank in 2015.

The article has been amended to reflect that the Strauss was purchased by clients of Conbulk Shipmanagement.
