Triton Marine Services has sold its only bulk carrier for recycling in Bangladesh.
Shipbroking reports indicate that the 73,400-dwt Eastern View (built 1995) has been sold for $415 per ldt, which equates to $4.4m for the ship.
Triton acquired the Eastern View from Qatar’s Marine Master Offshore Services in April 2018 for an undisclosed price. Its technical and commercial management was placed in the hands of Carina Shipping, a Dubai-based ship management company.
TradeWinds understands that the ship was mostly engaged in the Middle East aggregates trades during its time under Triton ownership.
A port state control inspection conducted in the Indian port of Chennai during May saw the ship detained over nine detainable deficiencies ranging from crew employment and working conditions to problems with fire safety equipment and alarms.
A follow-up inspection in the same port during June listed 14 defects, although none resulted in another detention.
The sale leaves Triton with a small fleet of tugs and barges.
The company could not be reached for comment on Friday.
