Christian Andersen is to return to shipbroking after his ousting in April as chief executive of LPG owner Avance Gas.

Andersen has been recruited as the new head of Oslo shipbroker Lorentzen & Stemoco (L&S), which is controlled by Norway's Tidemand family.

Caroline Tidemand confirmed Andersen's appointment to TradeWinds.

“He is clever business wise, and has an extensive network and the best qualifications to take the company forward," said Tidemand.

"The board is very pleased that he accepted the position and we have great expectations as to how the company will develop."

Fearnleys' beginnings

Andersen told TradeWinds it felt good to be back in shipbroking . He added: “It is not that much different from what I have been doing.”

Earlier in his career, he worked at Fearnleys before joining Bergesen and then Stolt-Nielsen prior to moving to the John Fredriksen-controlled Avance.

When he left Avance, he said it would be nice to continue to work in the LPG and LNG markets.L&S was previously a leading Norwegian shipbroker, but has in recent years suffered heavy losses and scaled down substantially.

In 2018, former RS Platou director Wilhelm Holst was recruited as head of global shipbroking at L&S, but it has continued to suffer losses.

TradeWinds understands that Holst will continue with the firm after the recruitment of Andersen. The company’s annual results for 2018 have not yet been made publicly available.
