An ice-breaking LNG carrier on long-term charter to Russia’s Yamal LNG project has entered a French shipyard for repairs.

Ship tracking data shows the 172,600-cbm Georgiy Brusilov (built 2018) entered Damen Shiprepair Brest’s facility in northwest France on 19 December.

Sources close to the 15-vessel Arc7 fleet said the ship is undergoing repairs to its NO 96 GTT-designed cargo containment system.

Yard work

One commented that even small repairs can take some time to complete because of the difficulty of working inside the tanks and the need to erect scaffolding to reach some areas.

Dynagas chief executive Tony Lauritzen did not respond to requests for comment.

The Georgiy Brusilov is one of five Arc7 LNG carriers for Yamal that is owned by Dynagas in partnership with Sinotrans and China LNG Shipping.

The vessel is still under a two-year guarantee with shipbuilder DSME.

The Damen yard is one of three shiprepairers in Europe, along with Chantier Naval de Marseille in France and Navantia Shiprepairers’ Fene-Ferrol in northern Spain certified by GTT to carry out repairs to its containment systems.

The Georgiy Brusilov is not the first of the 15 Arc7 ships to make use of its guarantee period for repair work.

In the last quarter, the MOL and China Cosco Shipping-controlled, 172,600-cbm Vladimir Vize (built 2018) returned to DSME for work after small anomalies were found in gas readings from its containment system.

Another Dynagas Arc7, the 172,600-cbm Fedor Litke (built 2017), had work done at DSME after an incident with a bunker barge.

A fourth vessel went in for repairs to its azipod propulsion system after sustaining damage in ice.

The final vessel in the 15-ship specialised Arc7 LNG carrier fleet was delivered last month.

This article has been amended to reflect that Dynagas owns five Arc7 ships.
