Fincantieri-owned shipbuilder Vard Group has revealed Cathrine Kristiseter Marti as its new boss, four months after she quit rival Ulstein Group.
The new chief executive will begin work on 1 June, replacing Alberto Maestrini, who will remain as chairman.
Marti stepped down at Ulstein last November.
“The appointment of the new CEO is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen Vard as the leading world player in offshore and specialised vessels and a key business pillar within the Fincantieri group,” Vard said.
It said Marti has a strong link to the Norwegian business community and solid international shipbuilding experience.
She also “has the necessary toolset to ensure continuity of performance and at the same time providing a boost for further growth”.
Marti said: “I am honoured and proud to take over the responsibility as CEO and I am confident that together with the competent and engaged colleagues in Vard, we will continue to grow as a trusted player in the shipbuilding industry and create long-term value for the shareholder.”
Maestrini, who has been CEO since 2020, will also continue to lead the offshore and special vessels business at Fincantieri.
He said: “After some difficult years, Vard Group has finally reached a sound business position.
“Now I am very happy to give the helm to Cathrine for the next phase of the journey, which I am sure will bring an even brighter future to Vard and Fincantieri.”
Vard has shipyards in Norway, Romania, Brazil and Vietnam.
Marti’s departure from Ulstein meant a return to the top job there for Gunvor Ulstein.
She was CEO for nearly 22 years previously and represents the third generation of the family-owned operation.
Marti was promoted from chief financial officer at Ulstein.
She had previously worked at Hoegh Autoliners and DNB Shipping & Offshore.
