Vard's current orderbook, including repair/conversion and equipment, comprises 41 vessels with a total value of NOK 12bn ($1.46bn) — and 34 are its own designs.

Of the total, 20 ships are in Norway, 11 in Romania, six in Vietnam and four in Brazil. Seven were added in the nine months to the end of September, while another seven vessels have been delivered.

The group has five yards in Norway (Vard Aukra, Vard Soviknes, Vard Langsten, Vard Brattvag and Vard Brevik), two in Romania (Vard Tulcea and Vard Braila), one in Vietnam (Vard Vung Tau) and one in Brazil (Vard Promar). Employees total 9,000 worldwide.

Hull production is carried out in Romania, where Vard has invested in Tulcea, including robotics and automation, and a new gantry crane last year.

Kjell Morten Urke, vice president of concept design, claims it is now one of most effective and modern yards for hull production in Europe.
