Euronav is tipped to have sold the last product tanker it acquired as part of a takeover of Gener8 Maritime.

Brussels and New York-listed Euronav assumed two LR1s as part of last year’s merger, which were always seen as non-core assets amid a larger stable of VLCCs and suezmaxes.

The first of the ships was sold last year and now brokers say the other vessel, which had been trading dirty, has been cashed in.

The 72,600-dwt Genmar Compatriot (built 2004) is believed to have secured a price of around $7m.

Euronav sold sistership Gener8 Companion for $6.8m in October last year.

The two vessels have been the outliers in the Euronav fleet since it closed the Gener8 transaction in June last year.

It made Euronav the third-largest tanker owner globally, with 43 VLCCs and 27 suezmaxes.

It also has a floating production, storage and offloading venture with International Seaways.
