Pools giant Navig8 has added another tanker controlled by Greece’s Roswell Navigation to its fleet.

The 159,395-dwt suezmax Raptor (built 2007) will be handed over this month.

The Raptor was bought by Roswell as the Ridgebury Nicholas A from Ridgebury Tankers in the US for $33.4m in October last year, with a special survey due.

The ship becomes the fifth in the Suez8 pool, with the other four being Ridgebury Tankers-controlled vessels.

The Raptor, built at Universal Shipbuilding in Japan, is now valued at $39m by VesselsValue.

Athens-based Roswell also has its 47,496-dwt Sapsan (built 2005) operating in Navig8’s conventional MR pool, and the 115,126-dwt Seliger (built 2009) in the V8 aframax pool.

The company has a mixed fleet of 10 ships, including four other smaller tankers and two handysize bulkers.

Last month, Navig8 expanded its eco MR operation further in a deal with Norwegian owner DSD Shipping.

The group said it was “delighted” to take over the commercial running of the 50,000-dwt Stavanger Pioneer (built 2019) and Stavanger Poseidon (built 2020) through its Eco MR Pool.

More candidates?

Both ships were handed over in December last year, bringing the total number of tankers in the pool to 13.

DSD has two other MRs in its fleet, plus two small clean tankers in a joint venture with compatriot Meling & Co.

The 50,000-dwt Stavanger Pearl and Stavanger Pride (both built 2020) could also now be candidates for a switch to Navig8.

All four MRs were previously operating in the Maersk MR Pool.

In November, Navig8 said it was now managing all nine of Greek owner Latsco Shipping’s modern MR tankers.

The 49,879-dwt MR2 Hellas Margarita (built 2017) was the last to join the Eco MR Pool.
