Singapore's Hafnia has offloaded another older product tanker as its fleet renewal progresses.

Brokers reported the 40,000-dwt MR1 Hafnia Karava (built 2007) sold to unknown interests for $9m this week.

The tanker was acquired in 2014 from the Tufton group in the UK.

A Hafnia spokesman confirmed the sale and said the vessel will soon be delivered to the buyer.

The disposal follows the sale of sistership Hafnia Hope (built 2007) in December.

These deals are part of a general fleet renewal process, the spokesman added.

"We cannot comment on the buyers and the actual price, but we have achieved good prices compared to the recent market deals," he told TradeWinds.

Sea Hawk Maritime became the latest Greek company to expand into tankers, with a move for the Hafnia Hope, according to an earlier report by TradeWinds.

The price was reported as between $9m and $9.5m.

This was its first oil carrier purchase since the Kourtesis family established the Athens outfit in 2013.

As Hafnia offloads older ships, it continues to forge huge deals to add fresh tonnage to the fleet.

This week, the BW Group company confirmed it was in advanced talks to add 12 modern LR1s from US-listed Scorpio Tankers.

The ships, all built in 2016 except for one 2015-built vessel, represent Scorpio's entire complement of owned LR1s.

Scorpio has greater scale in other products segments such as MRs and LR2s. Hafnia already owns a large stable of LR1s.

This follows up a November deal in which Hafnia bought Oaktree's Chemical Tankers Inc, adding 32 chemical carriers.
