Singapore’s Hafnia has offloaded two more ageing LR1 product carriers.

European brokers said the Oslo-listed tanker giant has sold two Chinese-built vessels for more than $23m each.

They are the 77,000-dwt Hafnia Danube and Hafnia Hudson (both built 2007).

Hafnia confirmed the sales to TradeWinds.

UK valuation platform VesselsValue assesses the tankers as worth $22.5m, up from just $13m a year ago.

Clarksons reported a newbuilding price of $39m for the ships in 2004.

They were sold to Hafnia parent BW Group in 2006 as a resale from KGAL of Germany for $56.2m each.

The LR1s have been operating in Hafnia’s own pool.

But the vessel class is falling out of favour with owners as they seek economies of scale with larger LR2s.

The new owner of the duo is not yet known.

The two ships are Hafnia’s oldest LR1s, of which 10 will remain in its owned fleet if the sales are confirmed.

Two sisters sold

The owner sold two sister ships of the same vintage in February for $22.7m each, showing how asset values continue to climb.

The 77,000-dwt Hafnia Columbia and 73,700-dwt Hafnia Kronborg (both built 2007) have now been renamed PM Crown and PM Regalia by an unknown Asian owner.

A spokeswoman for Hafnia said in February that the disposals were part of its continuing fleet renewal.

Hafnia sold 17 tankers in 2022, including a fleet of eight small chemical tankers to Dutch owner Ace Tankers.

The company also disposed of three MRs for $36m: the 39,800-dwt Hafnia Rainier, 40,000-dwt Hafnia Robson and Hafnia Adamello (all built 2004), built at Saiki Heavy Industries in Japan.

Beks Ship Management in Turkey later emerged as the buyer.
