China's Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation (CSET) has named Liu Hanbo as its new chairman.

Liu replaces Huang Xiaowen, who has resigned, the VLCC owner said in a filing.

The new chairman has stepped down as general manager of the company to chair the board.

Zhu Maijin will take over this role.

Born in November 1959, Liu holds a master’s degree in engineering and is a senior economist.

Before joining the Shanghai and Hong Kong-listed CSET, part of state conglomerate China Cosco Shipping, Liu had served in senior positions at various group affiliates.

Zhu, 49, was previously CSET’s deputy general manager.

And CSET said Lu Junshan, another deputy general manager, has resigned after having reached retirement age.

Big changes are afoot for the shipowner.

This month it unveiled plans to launch a VLCC pool and build dual-fuelled VLCCs.

On its website, CSET said it had discussed pool operation and scrubber installation with Navig8 Group, though no concrete deal was announced.
