Maersk Tankers has shuffled its management pack following the appointment of Christian M Ingerslev as chief executive.

Claus Gronborg has taken up the role of chief commercial officer at the world’s fifth largest products tanker owner.

Gronborg, who previously headed Brostrom and Maersk’s VLCC fleet, will oversee chartering and operations, a statement said.

Ingerslev says Gronborg has been in charge of the company’s “taking lead” strategy from his former position as head of business development and his trading and risk management experience will further raise the company’s commercial capabilities.

Gronborg’s former seat will be filled by Soren Meyer, who has been heading Maersk Tankers’ medium range (MR) division.

Meyer will now be responsible for strategy, sale and purchase as well as the strategic initiative, third party services, Maersk Tankers said.

As TradeWinds reported last week, Ingerslev has been appointed to take up the chief executive’s post at Maersk Tankers which was vacated by Morten Engelstoft, who is moving to head APM Terminals.

"I’m excited and proud to have been appointed CEO for Maersk Tankers," Ingerslev said in a statement provided to TradeWinds.

"I have been in the organisation for 15 years, which has given me insight into the business and tankers industry.

"In my new role, I’m looking forward to continue the execution of Maersk Tankers’ strategy together with our team onshore and at sea."

Last week AP Moller-Maersk announced it would split in two, with its transport and energy businesses separated.

Maersk Tankers will be part of the Energy segment along with Maersk Oil, Maersk Drilling and Maersk Supply Service.

The new Transport & Logistics arm will consist of Maersk Line, APM Terminals, Damco, Svitzer and Maersk Container Industry.
