New York-listed Nordic American Tankers disclosed a slew of fixtures on Monday, many behind market rates.

The Herbjorn Hansson-led suezmax owner said the 10 fixtures stretching back a month were an improvement over recent quarters.

“The rates we experience now are far above recent quarters,” the company said.

In a week where suezmaxes were earning an average of $44,787 per day according to Clarksons, the company fixed one of its tankers at $60,000 per day for 35 days on a voyage from the Mediterranean to Asia and the other for $19,000 per day for 36 days from the Middle East Gulf to Singapore.

The week prior it reported two more: A 15-day cross-Mediterranean charter at $40,000 per day and a Red Sea to Asia voyage for $21,500 per day for 45 days. For the week ending 5 August, suezmaxes were earning an average of $46,946 per day.

For the week of 25 July, Nordic American Tankers nabbed three charters. On 25 July it fixed a ship for a Brazil to Europe voyage at $30,000 per day for 40 days and another for the Middle East Gulf to US Gulf at $13,500 per day over 65 days. On 28 July it chartered a ship to sail from the Middle East Gulf to Singapore for $21,500 per day over 45 days.

The company said the Middle East Gulf to US Gulf fixture was a positioning voyage. That week, suezmaxes earned an average of $55,202 per day.

It fixed one ship on 21 July to sail from the US Gulf to Europe at $55,000 per day over 40 days and one on 20 July to sail from the Middle East Gulf to the east coast of India at $37,000 per day over 20 days.

That week, suezmaxes were earning an average of $56,515 per day.

The final announced fixture was made on 15 July for a voyage from the Middle East Gulf to Singapore at $30,000 per day for 32 days when suezmaxes were earning an average rate of $40,353 per day.

Nordic American Tankers has not yet announced its second-quarter earnings but said in May it had 70% of its fleet booked at an average of $20,000 per day up from an average of $8,870 per day in the first quarter.

Specific ships and charterers were not disclosed.

The forward bookings reported for that quarter trailed behind competitors Teekay Tankers and International Seaways.

For the third quarter, Teekay Tankers said its suezmax fleet was earning $29,600 per day with 43% of days booked, while International Seaways said its suezmaxes were earning $32,400 per day with 58% of days booked.
