NYK has confirmed that French oil major is to take a Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT) shuttle tanker on long-term charter.

The Japanese shipowner said the French oil major would take the 152,000-dwt newbuilding on charter for a maximum of 15 years.

The tanker, which is under construction in China at COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co, would be delivered in 2021.

Total intends to deploy the vessel to shuttle crude oil produced in waters off Brazil. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TradeWinds first reported that Total had agreed to charter the ship earlier this week.

With this new building, the KNOT Group, which is 50% owned by NYK, will have 32 shuttle tankers in operation or on order.

The KNOT Group has a share of about 40% of the world shuttle tanker market excluding vessels on order and shuttle tankers in Russia.
