Greek shipowner Roxana Shipping has locked one of its six LR1 tankers into at least a two year charter to trader Trafigura at a record rate.

European brokers said the Krontiras-family company chartered the 73,000-dwt Aligote (built 2010) at $19,000 per day, providing earnings of nearly $14m during the charter period for Roxana.

Aligote is one of five SPP Shipbuilding-constructed sisterships in the Roxana fleet. They were ordered starting in 2007 at $58m each.

Roxana chief commercial officer Andrea Vaccari confirmed that all the company’s LR1 tankers now are time charters. Trafigura declined to comment.

In October, Roxana fixed another LR1 tanker, the Athiri (built 2010), to Koch Industries for 11 to 14 months at $20,500 per day, in a deal that was confirmed by Vaccari.

The Araman (built 2010) and Asprouda (built 2013) are both on one-year charters to ST Shipping until October 2020 at $19,000 per day each.

In February, the fifth ship Altesse (built 2010) will complete a one-year charter to oil major BP at $15,000 per day.

All the ships are operated in Roxana pool.

The company set up the product tanker pool in 2014 and initially it took in third-party vessels, including co-operation with Seaarland Shipping, but now the Greek shipowner runs the operation alone.

Roxana Shipping also has five CSSC-built medium-range tankers that were ordered in 2006, likely for some $38m each. Vaccari confirmed that all the company’s MR tankers are operating in the spot market.
