A Norwegian tanker damaged in an attack off Fujairah in May is back in business.

The US blamed Iran for mine damage to manager Thome's 47,000-dwt Andrea Victory (built 2005), but Iran denied this.

AIS data showed the ship at anchor about 20 miles from the Iranian coast on Monday, having left Fujairah on 5 July.

Thome, as technical manager, and commercial manager Champion Tankers said in a statement later on Monday that the vessel is "en route to the port of Bandar Imam Khomeini in Iran with a cargo of sunflower seed oil originally shipped from Argentina."

"Argentine sunflower seed oil falls under the category of agricultural products that are permitted to be imported into Iran under a general licence issued by the US Government on humanitarian grounds," the companies added.

Both have undertaken the necessary due diligence, including seeking counsel from an international law firm, to ensure there are no sanctions-related issues arising in connection with this shipment.

The vessel was repaired in Port Rashid, Dubai, Bloomberg said.

The ship sustained a hole in its hull just above its waterline from “an unknown object,” Thome said in May.
