Torm has snapped up an additional LR2 tanker from Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Skipsrederi (KGJS) and Hayfin Capital joint venture, SKS Greentankers.

Chief executive Jacob Meldgaard told TradeWinds the company has added the 119,500-dwt SKS Darent (built 2011) following a $399m deal to acquire eight ships from the same firm late last year.

The purchase has been done on the same cash and shares basis as the prior transaction.

Torm will issue 600,000 more shares to the owner for the SKS Darent.

Meldgaard said: “We’re very happy with the relationship with them.”

TradeWinds reported in February that KGJS was close to completing its withdrawal from tankers.

Broker talk centred on a deal being agreed to offload the final two ships, the Darent and the sister ship SKS Driva (built 2010), for a combined price of $104m.

TradeWinds understood at that time that one of the ships had been sold, while the status of the other was uncertain.

The $399m price tag Torm paid for the eight ships last year equalled nearly $50m per tanker.

VesselsValue assesses the SKS Darent as worth $54m, with the sister at $51.5m.

This is up from $27m and $25m, respectively, two years ago.

In November, KGJS said it was focusing on bulkers after selling the eight LR2s.

Torm said the purchase price for the fleet comprised $239m in cash and 5.5m of its shares.
