The Iranian tanker Adrian Darya 1 at the centre of a sanctions row now has no listed destination.

AIS data shows the 301,000-dwt former Grace 1 (built 1997) awaiting orders while underway in the eastern Mediterranean on Wednesday morning.

It had previously been heading to Mersin in Turkey after switching from Greece following its release in Gibraltar.

Iran has said it has sold its 2.1m barrel-cargo of crude.

The vessel was detained in July in Gibraltar after authorities alleged it was taking Iranian oil to Syria.

It was freed after Iran undertook not to bring the cargo to Syria.

The US, which says the tanker is controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, has told countries in the region not to assist it.

The owner of the oil has not been identified.
