Zurich’s growing international shipping community came together recently for Swiss apero-style Christmas drinks to celebrate another eventful year.

More than 60 traders, shipowners, bankers, brokers, equipment providers and lawyers from the region met at the city’s Collana Bar in an event hosted by the Zurich Shipping Network.

Toasts were given by Giandomenico Dormio, of the Swiss representative office of shipbroker Simpson Spence Young, and Patrick Bachofner of International Registries Inc.

Established in 2015 to serve the local shipping community in German-speaking Switzerland, the Zurich Shipping Network now has more than 200 members.

Network chairman Gustav Ellingsen of Gearbulk Management Switzerland has brought the energy he previously showed as a leading light in the Shipping Professional Network London.

He is supported by fellow network board members Geanina Gabathuler and Giovanne Montanaro from Schellenberg Wittmer, and Ahmed Top Sakkal of LafargeHolcim Trading.

Recent network events have been held in collaboration with Wallem Group, Peter Lorange, Schellenberg Wittmer, Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (Wista), Wilhelmsen and the Johann Jacobs Museum.

Zurich Shipping Network has also organised visits to the international port of Basel with Mediterranean Shipping Co and the Wintertur Gas & Diesel main engine test facilities.

The network is affiliated with the Shipping Professional Network in London and on an international scale.
