Saudi Arabian shipping group Bahri has signed a strategic partnership with Aventra Group, a digital transformation consultancy, to assist its digital transformation journey by further utilising data to improve its decision-making capabilities.

The partnership will enable Bahri, an early adopter of the concept of big data, to accelerate its digital strategy to strengthen its comprehensive logistics and transportation offerings, acting chief technology officer Waleed Alsobayel said.

The scope of the partnership includes building a maritime-based data orchestration platform solution that will securely store, sort, and combine data across Bahri’s business units, allowing the company to streamline and automate data-driven decision-making.

Bahri’s new state-of-the-art data orchestration platform will collect and prepare data, analyse transactional efficiency and stream real-time information, including data from sensor-based Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This catalogued data will then be used to facilitate greater business insights using both machine learning automation and artificial intelligence

“Our partnership with Aventra Group is a great step towards implementing the latest technology to aid in our day-to-day operations. Data is the core to all digital transformation,” said Alsobayel.

According to Aventra Digital chief executive and executive director Ajay Gupta, the company will use its advanced data platform technology and maritime expertise to build a platform that will “enable Bahri to stay competitive in an ever-changing global market”.

“Digitisation is driving a significant shift in the maritime and logistics industry to move toward a data-driven culture,” Gupta added.

Based out of India and Singapore, Aventra Group specialises in working with maritime-related companies to provide digital solutions. Its senior executives come from both information technology and ship management.

Bahri was an early propagator of big data, hiring Silicon Valley executives to create and launch the Bahri Big Data platform in 2016, a time when many in the shipping thought the industry was too small to capitalise on the concept.

The company subsequently teamed up with other technology and shipping-related companies including South Korean shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy Industries to further advance its digitalisation journey.

This latest partnership with Aventra will build on the work Bahri has already done on the digitalisation front.
