UK-based maritime satellite communications company Inmarsat has ended its financial support of a project backed by Prince Andrew.

The UK's Duke of York has been embroiled in controversy over his friendship with convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein following a TV interview with the BBC this month.

Inmarsat was involved with Andrew's start-up scheme Pitch@Palace.

"We can confirm recent media reports that Inmarsat had previously advised Pitch@Palace that it was ending its support," the company told TradeWinds.

"We are making no statements beyond this."

Shipping lender Standard Chartered also said it was ending financial support.

A spokesman told City AM: “We won’t be renewing the sponsorship when it ends in February.”

Financier Epstein died in jail in August.
