Experienced shipping tech executive Mike Konstantinidis has been recruited by optimisation platform ZeroNorth three months after quitting METIS Cyberspace Technology.

The software specialist is now managing director of vessel optimisation and head of ZeroNorth’s Athens office.

Konstantinidis co-founded METIS, a Greek provider of digital performance monitoring tools for ships, in 2016 and was its chief executive until he left in December.

This was due to a disagreement over future strategy with the Polychronopoulou family, which bought the company in 2018.

In his new role, Konstantinidis will head up a new business area focused on bringing high-frequency data captured by on-board sensors to the ZeroNorth platform.

The appointment means ZeroNorth, backed by AP Moller Holding, Cargill and PSG Equity, will “double down” on sensor-derived data by incorporating it more closely into the company’s existing data analysis capabilities, the company said.

Konstantinidis said: “ZeroNorth is doing a great job in helping its customers navigate digitalisation and decarbonisation in this new era of shipping.”

“I am delighted to join the company to broaden its data to include high-frequency sensor data analysis. The industry is on a journey of digital transformation,” he added.

Konstantinidis has worked in technology for more than 35 years and in shipping since co-founding METIS.

ZeroNorth CEO Soren Meyer said: “I am incredibly excited for Mike to join the ZeroNorth team, bringing his expertise in high-frequency data to enrich our data analysis and fuel modelling capabilities.”

Takeovers continue

“His experience in both the maritime and technology industries will deepen our knowledge and ability to help customers navigate their digital transformation as the industry embraces more high-frequency data to drive the green transition,” he added.

Last month, ZeroNorth continued on the takeover trail with a deal to acquire bunker software company BTS in Singapore.

The Copenhagen-based organisation said the transaction would add BTS’ flagship suite of services to the group.

These comprise the Intelligent Bunker Management System, software tailored for the marine fuel supply chain.
