Danish fuel and voyage optimisation platform ZeroNorth is heading to Singapore to further its decarbonisation mission.

The company is opening an office in the central business district to boost support for its growing customer base in Asia and help “make global trade green”.

The new office will be headed by ZeroNorth’s vice president of sales and general manager for Asia, Paul Van Vessem.

ZeroNorth said he will work together with a team that is “well known in Singapore’s local maritime industry”.

The company sees Singapore as a central location in the region, with a particularly strong focus on technology and sustainability innovation.

ZeroNorth added that it was the “obvious choice” for the new base.

The company is owned by AP Moller Holding, Cargill and PSG Equity.

It has been growing rapidly this year to reach a total of more than 170 staff in six countries.

Clients number more than 50 companies.

Chief executive Soren Meyer said: “At this critical time in the energy transition, shipping companies are looking for the right partners to accelerate their decarbonisation efforts and advance their sustainability strategy.

“We are proud to be a purpose-led organisation that is playing a leading role in making global trade green by optimising operations for profit and planet, and we are very excited to bring our mission to the vibrant city of Singapore.”

Emissions target

The company has said it is on course to help cut CO2 emissions by more than 500,000 tonnes in 2022, up from 218,000 tonnes in the year before.

Van Vessem said the new move will put it right next door to existing customers and within reach of potential clients in the South East Asian region.

“Digital technologies create value by powering up commercial decision-making and improving competitiveness and transparency to counterparties,” he said. “We recognise that digital transformation is not always easy, which is why being close to our existing customers and prospects to support them every step of the way is so important to us.”
