Protection-and-indemnity (P&I) club managers escaped the heated political debate over the UK leaving the European Union for a rather more agreeable discussion on the consequences of Brexit.

The host was top P&I broker PL Ferrari and the venue the company’s magnificent 16th century headquarters in Genoa, Villa Pallavicino delle Peschiere.

So, when the serious talk was over, the 50 club managers, the PL Ferrari team and executives from the broker’s owners, Lockton Companies, found time for a little relaxation in the gardens of the "Palace of P&I".

All but one of the 13 International Group clubs were represented at the event — the exception being the Japan Club, which has a London outpost but remains domestically and Asia orientated.

The theme of the event was "Brexit: its impact on the P&I Clubs and the broker distribution network" with the difficulty of planning for what may be a hard or soft divorce from the EU at the centre of the debate.

The International Group clubs are collaborators and competitors, but the former seems to be at the fore when it comes to Brexit.
