AP Moller-Maersk is exploring the possibility of offering new services in its effort to drive revenue growth, according to its boss.

Chief executive Soren Skou was quoted by Finans as telling a PwC conference that new products will be tied to digitalisation of the transport business.

The Danish conglomerate has very publicly backed moves towards digitalisation over the past six months.

Its digital ambitions were revealed after the company unveiled its restructuring plan last year on the back of a depressed freight market.

Maersk Line, the group’s flagship company, has signed a deal with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba to digitalise shipments.

Maersk Tankers has also been active on the digital front, having developed a project allowing it to predict how freight markets will act.

The group has shown increased interest in digital solutions in its quest for lower costs.

Skou did not rule out the offering of services including financing, payment solutions and insurance besides digitalisation.

His comments follow up his prediction that Maersk Line could post a $1bn profit in 2017 thanks to long-term contracts on the east-west trades.
