Royal Arctic Line has returned to Havyard Design & Solutions to sketch out two more vessels, which will be built at Nodosa Shipyard.
The latest pair are smaller than an initial brace that Royal Arctic Line commissioned from Havyard last summer.
Royal Arctic will use the ships to deliver food supplies and other essential items to villages that are inaccessible by road in northwest Greenland, a statement explained.
Anders Bay Larsen, head of fleet management at the shipowner, said: “These two vessels are an important addition to our strategy to renew older vessels, and, not least, to the infrastructure on Greenland.”
The vessels will be designed to operate in harsh environments, move in and out of shallow ports and meet ice class specifications.
Delivery of the first ship is penciled in for the end of 2020, with the second following a few months later.
Havyard Design & Solutions has an orderbook of NOK 1.143bn ($131m).
