Greek bulker owner and manager Pioneer Marine has recruited a former DVB Bank veteran to its operation in Singapore.

Frans van de Bospoort has been appointed a non-executive director of Pioneer Marine Advisers, a Singapore-based entity that is part of Pioneer Marine commercial platform.

Pioneer Marine said: “Frans has been working for almost 14 years at DVB Bank, where he has been responsible for an $8bn shipping loan book as part of his role as global head of shipping finance and relationship management ... always aiming to add value through his business insights and influential personality.

“We are confident that his vast experience in the shipping industry, along with his global network, will open new horizons to the development and growth of our company.”

Van de Bospoort has lived in Singapore for more than 20 years and is also branch manager of DVB Singapore.

Chief executive Jim Papoulis and chief financial officer Korinna Tapaktsoglou led a management buyout of Pioneer Marine last July.

Pioneer Marine was formed in 2013 by Pankaj Khanna, the former operations chief of Greek bulker and tanker owner DryShips, with backing from Garrison Investment Group of the US.

Papoulis and Tapaktsoglou formed part of the new management team that replaced Khanna after he left in 2017, moving the company from Singapore to Greece.
