An Erik Thun cargo ship that nearly sank off west Denmark is to be moved to a dry dock to assess damage.
The 5,000-dwt Helge (built 2013) took on water after a collision involving the 500,000-cbf reefer Wild Cosmos (built 1998) in the North Sea off Ringkobing on Friday.
Manager MF Shipping Group reported on Tuesday that lightering operations will begin for the safe discharge of its general cargo.
Two other vessels will take the cargo, then the Helge will be moved to a dry dock in Esbjerg.
It arrived in the port over the weekend under tow.
All seven seafarers on board were rescued after abandoning ship.
MF Shipping said the crew members are expected to fly to their home countries on Wednesday.
“They have been assisting the authorities with their investigations to help understand the root cause of the incident,” the company added.
No serious injuries
MF Shipping thanked the Danish Navy, Norwegian Armed Forces, the Marine Home Guard and other agencies that took part in the rescue.
The captain was taken to hospital with cuts from broken glass, but his injuries were not serious.
The two ships were sailing in the same direction when the collision occurred.
The Wild Cosmos was on its way from Durban in South Africa to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. The Helge was en route from Antwerp in Belgium to Porsgrunn in Norway.
