Sinokor Merchant Marine has again managed to get above-market price offers for a pair of older feeder container ships it put up for demolition sale last week.

The 834-teu Sinokor Qingdao (built 1999) was sold to cash buyers at $593 per ldt, or $2.8m, and the 11,129-teu Sinokor Hongkong (built 1996) went for $598 per ldt, or $3.36m, after being widely circulated among specialist recycling brokers.

Although feeder container ship price offerings out of Bangladesh, where the pair are reportedly heading, were said to be around $577 per ldt at the time the ships were put up for sale, both are said to contain significant quantities of bunker fuel.

High quantities of bunker fuel were also influencing factors when the South Korean shipowner clinched a hefty $600 per ldt, or $4.18m, for its 1,512-teu Sawasdee Singapore (built 1995) from a ship recycling facility in Bangladesh in early April.

The Sinokor Qingdao, Sinokor Hongkong and Sawasdee Singapore were among 11 feeder container ships dating from the late 1990s in Sinokor’s owned fleet.

Recycling market sources on Monday expected that Sinokor would make more of these older vessels available in the recycling market in the near future, although it has yet to give any indication of doing so.

According to Vessels Value data, Sinokor has recycled seven container ships over the past 12 months.
