Diana Shipping has been handed a charter rate rise for one of its capesizes from Cargill at the same time as fixing a 2007-built panamax.
The Greek bulker owner said Cargill will extend the contract for the 177,243-dwt Baltimore (built 2005) for 13 to 16 months at a daily rate of $11,300.
Baltimore has been fixed to Cargill since last summer at a rate of $7,750 per day.
Diana announced the extension on a day that the Baltic’s capesize index lost 97 points and read 1,369.
The New York-listed owner has also locked one of its panamaxes into a period charter.
Noble Resources has hired the 73,593-dwt Arethusa (built 2007) for 10 to 14 months.
The charter commenced on Monday and Noble is paying Diana $7,200 per day.
Diana expects to generate gross revenue of $6.57m for the minimum period of its new charters.
Earlier this week, the Greek company secured fresh period contracts for one newcastlemax and one panamax.
