The Paris MoU port state organisation has barred two Lebanese vessels that clocked up 33 deficiencies between them.
Both have been banned for three months after being detained for the third time in three years.
The 3,000-dwt livestock carrier Blue Moon I (built 1975) was detained in Sitia, Greece, on 22 February.
It stayed there for 56 days after 19 deficiencies were found.
The ship, owned by Blue Moon Marine Trading and managed by Rania Marina of Lebanon, was also detained in Slovenia in January and France in 2017.
Grounds for detention included deficient watchkeeping and manning certificates, inoperative emergency lighting and radar transponder, expired charts, and corroded decks.
In addition, rescue boats were not properly maintained.
The ship flies the flag of Togo, which is black on the current Paris MoU list.
Unhygienic and insanitary
The 4,200-dwt general cargoship Sunshine (built 1977), meanwhile, was held in Kalymnos, Greece, for seven days with 14 deficiencies.
This vessel is also flagged in Togo. It is owned by Liliana Shipping of Lebanon.
It was previously detained in Greece and Bulgaria in 2016.
Inspectors in Kalymnos found unhygienic conditions in the sickbay and generally dirty conditions for the crew.
Sanitary facilities were inoperative, decks were corroded and charts were missing.
