Clients of Greek owner Dalomar Shipping are set to conclude an asset play on a handymax bulker they bought only six months ago.
Sources say the Oshima built, 48,000-dwt Marianthi (built 2003) has been sold to an undisclosed buyer for $5.5m.
TradeWinds understands, however, that the deal had not been finalized at the time of writing and that, if concluded, it would involve a higher price.
Dalomar’s clients bought the vessel as Armeria from Japan’s K Line for $4.2m in May. The ship is due for special survey in May 2018.
Dalomar has the ship under third-party management, an activity, which managing director Danos Zoulovits told TradeWinds last year the company wanted to expand.
A sale would leave Dalomar with one ship in its listed fleet, the Mitsui-built 46,500-dwt Danos Z (built 2001).
That vessel was bought from Swiss owner Massoel in March 2008 under the name Appenzell for a full $63.5m.
It is unlikely to be worth much more than $4m today, according to brokers’ estimates.
Dalomar was in October last year reported to have bought the 52,000-dwt bulker Global Ace (built 2004) for $7.9m but the ship ended up with Tanto Intim Lines.
Earlier in 2015 Dalomar sold two bulkers, the 72,000-dwt Lopi Z (built 1998) and the 74,000-dwt Lillian Z (built 1999) to K/S (limited partnership) companies set up by Fearnley Finans for $11.6m in total.
Dalomar was established during the boom market in 2006 by Vassilos Zoulovits.
