Polys Hajioannou companies Safe Bulkers and Safety Management Overseas are denying broker reports that they have purchased two modern dry bulkers.
Sources identified Safety Management as the new owner of the Sasebo-built 78,000-dwt Yarra (built 2015), which was reportedly sold by Santoku Senpaku for $21.5m.
Contacted by TradeWinds, however, senior company officials and Safe Bulkers president Loukas Barmparis said these reports are not true. Other brokers suggest the Yarra may not have been sold yet at all.
Hajioannou managers also deny other reports linking Safety Management to the $18m purchase of the 63,300-dwt Divine Seas (built 2016).
Clarksons, which is said to have handled the ship’s sale, reports the vessel went to Norwegian buyers instead, at an undisclosed price.
The ship, previously known as Hull No. DY4050, was one of two ultramaxes that Michael Bodouroglou’s Paragon Shipping had ordered at Yangzhou Dayang Shipbuilding.
Paragon, however, announced in March it did not take delivery of the vessel.
