Samsung Heavy Industries has placed a KRW 200m ($170m) price tag on a trio of suezmax newbuildings booked by Nordic American Tankers.

New York-listed NAT announced yesterday it had placed the ships as the South Korean yard but did not reveal pricing details.

Clarksons presently prices suezmax newbuildings at $55m each, down from $63m at the start of this year.

The contract continues a strong run for Samsung, which has clinched deals for two LNG carriers and seven other tankers in the past couple of months after an order drought earlier in the year.

NAT is no stranger to Samsung with a dozen vessels built at the yard in its suezmax fleet.

It first ordered tankers at the shipyard in the 1990s, Yonhap reports.
