Axia Capital Markets has appointed a new vice president to helm the investment bank's shipping practice after the departure of its previous analyst.

Clinton Webb joins Axia from Toronto, Canada-based investment bank GMP Securities. There, he had coverage responsibility for some 20 shipping companies across an array of dry bulk, LNG, oil and product tanker sectors.

Prior to GMP Securities, Webb worked in equity research at New York-based capital advisory Stephens, where he covered 35 companies primarily in the energy sector.

Webb holds an MBA in finance from Indiana University, Bloomington and received a BA from Union College, New York. He also studied natural resources management and policy at the Norwegian School of Economics.

Axia managing director Dimitrios Athanasopoulos said: "We are very pleased to have Clinton on board the Axia Group. His background and experience are both highly relevant to our operations and will, as such, allow him to significantly contribute to Axia’s expansion plans, providing insightful research and an invaluable perspective to our clients."

Webb replaces Robert Perri, who had been Axia's main shipping analyst since May 2015. Perri recently left the firm to take the role of chief financial officer at the George Economou-backed TMS Cardiff Gas.
