An Avance Gas VLGC could face a spell in dry dock after a collision with another vessel in South Korea today.

The 83,000-cbm Passat (built 2015) came into contact with a tanker at the Pyontaek anchorage, Avance told investors.

Christian Andersen, president of Avance Gas, tells TradeWinds the VLGC drifted into the 73,400-dwt New Confidence (built 2005) after lifting anchor.

The Passat suffered some damage to its hull and will now be discharged.

Andersen says it is likely that ship will be taken to dry dock for repairs but describes today’s collision as nothing dramatic.

None of the 24 crew onboard the Passat were injured and the seafarers on the New Confidence are also unhurt. There are no reports of any pollution in the area.

Avance Gas has a fleet of eight owned VLGCs in the water with its operational fleet running to 14 ships.
