Maran Gas Maritime managing director Stavros Hatzigrigoris is stepping down from his role today after 39 years with the Angelicoussis Group.

Maran Gas said the move of the well-known industry face is part of "internal reorganisation" within the company.

In a statement, Hatzigrigoris said: "My 39 years with the Angelicoussis Group have been stimulating and challenging, and I am proud that I have been able to contribute significantly to its growth and success. I wish the group and all at MGM every success in the future."

Hatzigrigoris will remain as a consultant to the group until the end of the year.

The private Greek shipping group is led by president and chief executive John Angelicoussis and his daughter, Maria — a UK-trained medical scientist whose footprint has been steadily growing since she joined the company in 2008.

"Maria and I wish to thank Stavros for all his many years of loyal service to the group, which has contributed so significantly to our success and growth," John Angelicoussis said.

"Stavros leaves us with our grateful thanks and our very best wishes for the future."

Hatzigrigoris' exit is the second big-name departure in the Angelicoussis empire this month.

Last week, TradeWinds reported that John Platsidakis was leaving his position as managing director of group dry bulk outfit Maran Dry Management, previously known as Anangel Maritime Services.

Hatzigrigoris is highly regarded throughout the industry for his technical expertise and knowledge. He has overseen newbuilding and repair work throughout the group's fleet and most recently was engaged with the huge scrubber retrofit job undertaken on a large number of its vessels.

Maran said Despoina Moustaka will take on the role of general manager of Maran Gas in the interim.

She will be supported by technical director Andreas Spertos as technical director, executive vice president Richard Gilmore and operations manager Srdan Silic.
