Oman has awarded a $600m contract that will see the country get its first major LPG export terminal.
London-based contractor Petrofac announced the deal with the country's state-owned Oman Oil Facilities Development Company to build the Salalah LPG extraction plant.
The Salalah plant will be able to produce up to 268,000 metric tonnes per year of LPG, along with 70,000 metric tonnes per year of condensate.
The plant, to be managed by Oman Gas, will also include waterborne access with a marine loading terminal and jetty. No information was available as yet on what size gas carriers the facilities will accomodate. The plant's construction is expected to take three years.
Oman is a relatively small energy exporter currently with the US Energy Information Administration estimating crude oil exports of some 800,000 barrels per day. Oman LNG exports 7.8 million metric tonnes of LNG.
