This summer's biggest sporting event has become the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic.
No, not the Olympics, Euro 2020 or Wimbledon, but the Marine Challenge Cup, that traditional fixture of the English summer organised by shipping lawyers from the Americas.
In a letter to participants, main sponsor Chaffe McCall bowed to the inevitable this week and called off what would have been the 22nd edition of the five-a-side football tournament in July.
Lawyers Dan Tadros and Jon Wise said the organising committee had been closely monitoring developments over the past few months.
And they said they had taken the decision to cancel "because the pandemic continues to be a worldwide concern" and they wanted to put the health and safety of the players first.
"We hope that by next summer this crisis will be well behind us and that we will be able to gather again to enjoy each other's company while playing our favourite sport," they wrote.
Top-flight football in England is making a comeback in June, but it has access to the latest testing and hygiene controls, something sadly unavailable to middle-aged shipping executives.
Star names
The event in Dulwich, South London, has brought together insurance brokers, protection and indemnity clubs and lawyers for more than 20 years, with keenly fought matches followed by a barbecue and disco.
Over the year, shipping professionals have come face to face with some top players — and TradeWinds staff.
Former England internationals Shaun Wright-Phillips and Robert Lee have been spotted there, and in 2018 the Chaffe McCall team was graced by former Mexico under-20s captain Natalie Lagunas.
Sponsors in the past have included law firms Keesal Young & Logan, Palmer Biezup Henderson, Horr Novak & Skipp and De Castro & Robles.
TradeWinds' inaugural triumph will just have to wait until 2021.
