Lars Moller has been sentenced to 18 months in jail by a Danish court for his part in the collapse of OW Bunker.

He was found guilty of giving a trading partner an unrecoverable credit worth $90.2m without having the authority to do so from the management in Denmark.

Moller’s defence lawyer Anders Nemeth told Danish broadcaster TV2 that the 18-month sentence was “not unexpected”.

It was not clear whether Moller, who was head of OW Bunker subsidiary Dynamic Oil Trading in Singapore, would appeal against the verdict.

OW Bunker collapsed owing at least $150m in late 2014 just seven months after listing in Copenhagen in March 2014.

The bankruptcy of OW Bunker, then the world's leading supplier of marine fuel oil with a 7% market share, sent shockwaves through the global shipping industry.
