Richard Turner, an insurance professional for 35 years, will take the helm at the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) in September.

He will replace Dieter Berg, who is stepping down after serving a four-year term as president.

Turner has spent his entire career at London-based RSA Insurance Group, where he was a hull underwriter from 1989 to 2001.

He went on to run RSA's London market marine operation from 2002 to 2009 before becoming Europe Marine leader.

In 2010, he was promoted to leader of RSA's global marine business, a role he held until last year.

Today, he serves as managing director of RSA's global specialty business in Europe.

On 1 September, he will be named CEO of RSA's new post-Brexit unit in Luxembourg. He still oversees marine units in nine countries through Europe and DIFC.

Berg has served as a senior executive manager at Munich Re, where he led response to major events, such as the wrecking of the cruise liner Costa Concordia.

IUMI represents 40 national and marine market insurance and reinsurance associations.
