Tasmanian shipping boss Les Dick has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges following cattle deaths two years ago.

Australian media reported that Dick and his company LD Shipping are accused of aggravated animal cruelty and using a method of management reasonably likely to cause unjustifiable pain and suffering to an animal.

Others including ship master John McGee have also been charged with similar offences.

ABC said the legal action arose from the deaths of 62 cows on the 900-dwt landing vessel Statesman (built 1999) in January 2016.

The case could last up to three weeks.
