Havila Shipping has been awarded a long-term contract from compatriot Reach Subsea for one subsea vessel.

The two Oslo-listed companies have agreed on a three-year charter for Havila’s 98-loa Havila Subsea (built 2011).

According to Clarksons, the vessel has been laid up for months, although it was being marketed for contracts.

Njal Saevik, chief executive of Havila, said: “We are pleased to be awarded this contract for one of our vessels in a challenging market, and see this as an acknowledgement of Havila Shipping as a high quality operator and shipowner. We look forward to co-operate with Reach Subsea in the years to come.”

A month earlier, Havila secured backing from over 90% of investors for a restructuring plan.

The latest agreement with Reach also includes two optional periods, each for a year.

Josten Alendal, chief executive of Reach, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer another quality subsea spread to our clients, with a vessel that fits nicely into our focus markets.

“An important part of our operational strategy is to co-operate with shipowners renowned for high quality performance, and we look forward to co-operate with Havila in the years to come.”

The new contract for Reach comes hot on the heels of a successful private placement providing the company with NOK 85m ($12m) to support its growth strategy.
