A Golden Close Maritime drillship has been sold into Asia for $262.5m.

The company said money from the deal for the 80,000-dwt Deepsea Metro I (built 2011) will help redeem bonds.

Golden Close is a joint venture controlled 60% by Metro Exploration and 40% by Odfjell, which manages the unit.

Bassoe Offshore said the drillship has been warm-stacked in Malaysia since 2017 after seeing its most recent contract in disputed waters off Vietnam cut short due to force majeure.

The broker said the likely buyer is Turkish Petroleum, which bought its sister unit last year.
