A US bankruptcy judge has handed shipbroker Clarksons the task of liquidating nine of Toisa’s offshore vessels, ranging from diving support to platform supply vessels.

VesselsValue pegs the total market value of all nine ships at a little more than $70m, although offshore brokers warn that forced sales virtually always guarantee that buyers will push down prices even further.

The moves to sell the offshore vessels come as Clarksons' efforts to sell the tanker fleet of the Gregory Callimanopulos-led shipowner closes.

TradeWinds reported last week that Diamantis Diamantides-controlled Delta Tanker was poised to take six newbuildings, meaning the Greek shipowner's interests have picked up nearly half of the 26 tankers sold through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

Costly systems

In the nine-ship offshore batch, the highest potential values are among the one well-stimulation vessel and two diving support vessels, which are equipped with cranes and costly 14-man diving systems.

These three subsea vessels alone make up 94% of the total $70.7m estimate from VesselsValue.

The 133-metre Toisa Proteus (built 2002), which has a 400-ton crane and saturation diving system, is listed at a market value of nearly $34m, while the 144-metre Toisa Perseus (built 1998), which has a 150-ton crane and SAT dive system, is listed at $17.7m.

The 104-metre Toisa Pisces (built 1997), which is used in the well-stimulation market, is listed at $13m by VesselsValue.

The PSVs, which represent one of the world’s most oversupplied arenas, are on the other end of the value scale.

The 4,400-dwt Toisa Independent (built 2003), which has 1,000 square metres of deck space, is listed at $1.68m, while the 3,200-dwt Toisa Conqueror (built 2001) is priced at $770,000.

The 4,700-dwt Toisa Intrepid and Toisa Invincible (both built 1998) are listed with market values of $1.06m each, which is the same as their demolition values.

The 3,200-dwt Toisa Coral and Toisa Crest (both built 1999) are listed at $740,000 each, also the same as scrap values.
