Genting is interested in building a cruise terminal in Shanghai as it looks to tap rising demand in the Chinese market.

The Hong Kong cruiseship owner has plans to join its rivals, who have already been very active in the booming Chinese cruise sector.

Besides a possible investment in Shanghai, Genting is currently focused on its port development project in south China’s Nansha, Ejinsight reported.

The facility in Nansha will have the capacity to accommodate 750,000 passengers per year.

Carnival Corp and Royal Caribbean Cruises have been very outspoken about their intention to take advantage of the growth in the regional cruise market.

As TradeWinds has reported, Genting has also plans away from China as it is believed to be among the bidders for STX France.
