Up to 29 people could be missing after a ferry sank off Yemen.

At least 35 passengers were rescued, fisheries minister Fahad Kaffen said.

The ship was en route from Hadramout to the island of Socotra.

The Aden al-Ghad news website said the ferry is thought to have suffered some kind of accident.

Authorities at Hadramout's Mukalla port lost contact with it on Tuesday evening.

It sank 40km northwest of Socotra.
